A manor house from the 17th century
The Finca Morneta is located above Binissalem on the edge of the Tramuntana mountain range in Mallorca’s largest wine-growing area.
The origin of the city name Binissalem dates back to Arab times, „Banu Ssálam“ means “Children of peace”. The era of the Arabic domination has left behind many traces, also in the lifestyle of the inhabitants, as can be seen by the irrigation systems, fountains or canals. The community’s most meaningful characteristic is the existence of the so-called “Possessions”, stately manor-houses with far-reaching arable land, which are an inheritance of the feudal society and the agricultural trade. Of those manor houses, the Finca Morneta from the 17th century, Can Morante (old guesthouse of Bellveure), and Can Cabrit, characterized by their Arabic style, are the most important and most well-known ones, as is also the farmstead Bellveure, which was constructed in the 15th century at the foot of the mountains. The architecture of Binissalem attracts an ever-growing number of tourists and visitors, especially since the town was declared a “conjunto histórico artistic” (historically significant complex) in 1983.
